Guarantee your books will be the best selling

Almost every legitimate publisher will never guarantee that your books will become a bestseller or even will sell certain numbers of copies. Best-selling books are often based on the story plot, character’s illustrations, book cover, and well marketing strategies. So make sure you don’t get tempted by those publishers who guarantee your books will be best-selling.

Restricted copyrights

Every author deserves copyrights of their own books. Therefore, you need to make sure the publisher with who you’re working is not restricted to any copyrights of your book. To make sure your copyrights aren’t restricted, you’ll need a clear contract between yourself as the author and the publisher.

Required to sell books with a minimal amount

Another sign of a publisher scam is the author will need to sell a minimal amount of their books within a certain time period or else the author will need to pay back the difference or pay back the book production costs. This is why it is important to reread and have discussions about the working contract.

Direct offerings

Getting offers directly can get a bit suspicious sometimes especially if the publisher isn’t something that you’re familiar with. Cross-checking it on Google and social media platforms are simple ways to avoid publishing scams.

Required to purchase your own book

Authors don’t require to buy copies of their own books from a publisher. There could be a potential scam from the publisher that wanted you to purchase your own book and wanted you to re-sell those books at your book signing.

Book contest fees

Indeed some book contest needs you to pay an amount of money to enter. But if there is a publisher that claims your book is one of the finalists and charge you a fee so your book will make it to the finals.
